Black
skin is affected as much by sunlight, pollution and stress as women
with lighter skin tones. In many respects, women with black skin
are faced with even greater challenges.
Black women,
for instance, need to be very conscious of hyperpigmentation since
their skin scars so easily. To prevent scarring, they need to always
guard against acne and to continually protect their skin from the
sun.
In fact, any
situation where the skin can be irritated, be it squeezing blemishes,
shaving or plucking hair, can result in black skin producing more
melanin and creating dark spots. During pregnancy too, many dark-skinned
women experience the “mask of pregnancy,” or a darkening
of skin around the neck due to hormonal changes.
Generally black
women also tend to have oily facial skin, which can be compounded
by more than just the skin’s natural oils.
The oily ingredients
used in black hair care products, often contribute to the general
oiliness of the skin. This condition is acerbated by high fat diets.
Ironically, although black women are prone to excessive facial oils,
they also have dry, ashy body skin.
Sacha’s skin care system has been
formulated with these considerations in mind. It is a very basic
regime of cleansing and toning with basic oil-free moisturizer and
products that control oil. Our Daily
Moisturizers have SPF15 sun protection. Our Overnight
Moisture Lotion is moisturizing without being oily.
We strongly
advise against use of fading creams. Instead, we advise that during
the day, African women protect their skin from the sun. At nights,
we recommend that they use our Overnight
Renewal Lotion with alpha-hydroxy acid which gently exfoliates
the dead cells.
When all factors
are considered, we believe that Sacha manufactures the finest black Skin Care system on the
market.
